Flat Curve for Hawai‘i : Not Yet

To flatten the curve means we have slowed the new infection rate. Hawai‘i acted quickly. Being an island means no one just drives in. Fly in today and into a 14-day mandatory quarantine you go.


Letʻs walk through this graphic it has three messages to appreciate.

The upper left graph is from the John Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering. Why there and not the medical school, in two words, computational mathematics.


The Green line is the number of COVID 19 cases in days since one person in a million. This is done so we can compare states with huge populations to states with small populations. As you can see the new cases grew fairly fast for two weeks and then began to slow.


Growth is slow. The number of new cases doubles in 5 or 6 days. This is in stark contrast to New York and Louisiana where the doubling rate is around three days.
